Republican-controlled NYS Senate passes gay marriage bill - OMG! - June 24, 2011

My 33rd Annual June Piano Recital (June 12th, 2011), held at Rockland Conservatory Of Music in Spring Valley, NY, was a great success!
23 of my students, ages 7 to 18, played their hearts out for an audience of approximately 90 appreciative fans, family members and friends. Featuring standards, pop songs, movie and TV themes, and classical music, the selections offered something for every taste.
Student Joseph Chindemi opened the Recital with "The Star-Spangled Banner". In addition, students Adam Gloc and Manny Silverstein performed their own very special original compositions. And, as always, I premiered a brand new piece, specially written for the occasion, my "Sweet As Sunday", to end the program.
Immediately following the Recital, I presented gifts and awards as follows:
My adult student Elaine Siebenaler received a special Piano Laser-Etched Crystal Paperweight.
All 23 students received a personalized Certificate of Participation.
Awards of Encouragement (very cool keyboard pen) were given to Katie Millman, Makayla Fetterman, Joely Pistiner, Barrie Fisher, and Daniel Kantrowitz.
The Piano Pin Awards were presented to Lauren Aprahamian, Joey Coopersmith, Noah Jaynes, and Lauren DeMaio.
Student Achievement Awards (pocket music dictionary) went to Victor Chindemi, Joseph Chindemi, and Alexander Fetterman.
The New Plateau Awards (bust of a famous composer) were received by Adam Millman, Michael Grossbarth, Josh Etkind, Adam Gloc, Lindsey Aprahamian, Ethan Jaynes, and Matthew Jaynes.
The Quantum Leap Award (special grand piano medallion hanging from a tri-color neck ribbon, plus piano music) was presented to Noah Jaynes.
The Most-Improved Female Student (trophy and piano music) was Jordan Cohan.
The Most-Improved Male Student (trophy and piano music) was Alexander Fetterman.
Student Of The Year (trophy and piano music) was won by Sophie Solomon-O'Connell.
3 Graduating Seniors were honored: Julia Liebergall, Manny Silverstein, and Sophie Solomon-O'Connell - each received a handsome keyboard portfolio and a shiny new engraved trophy.
After the Awards Ceremony, everyone was treated to the scrumptious musically-decorated sheet cake (buttercream frosting, chocolate fudge filling!) and delicious specialty cookies, with choice of soft drink.
And a good time was had by all. Congratulations to all my students - you were terrific, and I'm very, very proud of you!

"Visions Of Sugar Plums" The Song of the Year songwriting contest has awarded Jordan Spivack the Suggested Artist placement in the song contest. Song of the Year receives entries from all over the world and only the top songwriters receive a Suggested Artist placement in the songwriting competition. Suggested Artist placement means the Song of the Year staff takes special notice of an entry that stands out to them and that they personally like, even though it did not place as a winner or finalist. If that same material also ended up being at least in the top 5% of the judges' scores, then they give it the Suggested Artist placement. Go to http://www.songoftheyear.com/placements/JordanSpivack.html to see the announcement!
