Very sad news . . . - August 11, 2008

This past Thursday, August 7th, 2008, our beautiful cousin Shayna Lopez passed away in her sleep. She was only 23 years old. Our love and prayers go out to her heartbroken family, her Mom (my cousin) Paula, Dad Elie, brothers Jake, Lee and Randy, and her Grandma (my Aunt) Sadie. Yesterday (Sunday) was the funeral in Brooklyn, NY and burial on Long Island. Over 300 grieving mourners, extended family and good friends, attended the funeral. We will greatly miss this very special young woman, and we will never forget her. Please go to the photo gallery to see four very special pictures.

Rest in peace.

Jordan and Joe see His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Radio City Music Hall in NYC on Thursday, June 17th! - July 21, 2008

This past Thursday, Joe and I had the honor of being in the presence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Radio City Music Hall in New York City! We had excellent orchestra seats (11th row back from the stage) for his talk on The Four Noble Truths (the truths on human sufferings 1. Life means suffering
2. The origin of suffering is attachment
3. The cessation of suffering is attainable
4. The path to the cessation of suffering).

There was a huge crowd for the 2 hour program. I found the whole presentation very interesting, informative and inspiring - an experience to remember. Check out the new pics in the Photo Gallery - fascinating stuff!

30th Annual June Student Piano Recital a big success! - June 22, 2008

Sunday, June 22nd: The 30th Annual June Piano Recital was a big success, with 20 of my best students performing at Rockland Conservatory of Music in Spring Valley, NY. The program featured fine new original compositions by Michael Grossbarth, Manny Silverstein, Adam Gloc, and Sammy Solomon-O'Connell, and also included my performance of the World Premiere of my original composition, "Split Second". The Recital was attended by approximately 80 enthusiastic parents, family members and friends. Student of the Year was Adam Gloc, Most-Improved Female was Rachel Refkin, and Most-Improved Male was Ethan Jaynes. The Quantum Leap Award went to Michael Grossbarth. Graduating students Danielle Rubin and Leah Le'ora Lichtenstein were also honored. Joseph Lanzone prepared the delicious refreshments. I dedicated the Piano Recital to the memory of my Dad, Gershon Spivack. Despite the tremendous thunderstorm raging outside, a good time was had by all! See the pics in the Photo Gallery!

Also, on June 21st, Joe and I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of Jim and Katherine Einstman at the Warwick Center in Warwick, NY. Everything was beautiful - the couple, the crowd, the setting, the reception, and the festivities. We had a great time, and wish the happy couple all the joy in the world! See the pics of us, and the glorious flowers and sunset behind the chapel!

Today's Rockland Learning Center Graduation Ceremony in the North Rockland High School auditorium was a resounding success, with the children singing their little hearts out! Led by dedicated teachers Jackie and Dorry, under the watchful eye of school director Maryann, and with musical guidance by yours truly, the students gave the enthusiastic audience of loving parents, families, relatives, and friends quite a show. This was followed by a delicious feast graciously donated by the school and the children's families. Congratulations to all, and I'm already looking forward to next year's extravaganza. I'm wishing everyone involved a very happy and relaxing summer. Always a pleasure working with professionals!
